Halifax, N.S. - The Halifax Hurricanes have re-signed their captain Cliff Clinkscales, from South Jamaica, Queens, NY. The longstanding captain has played in Halifax for the past six years and is returning to the Hurricanes for their fifth season.
The point guard is the current NBL Canada all-time career leader in assists, totalling 1804, including regular season and playoffs. Clinkscales averaged 440 assists and 363 points per season from 2015 to 2018 with the Hurricanes. While at the helm, the captain has led the Hurricanes to three Atlantic Conference titles and one NBL Canada championship, while averaging 35 wins a season.
A leader on and off the court, Clinkscales can be found assisting with Jr. Canes Basketball Camps and even checking out local talent at high school and university games.
"We are so pleased to announce Cliff is returning to Halifax for the upcoming season. A veteran who has earned many honours and tremendous respect in our league, Cliff is still the hardest working player every day in practice and understands what it takes to be a true professional basketball player," says Head Coach Mike Leslie. "He works out extremely hard in the off season, respects the game at such a high level, and brings an incredible knowledge and basketball IQ to our teams each year. So many players I talked with in the off season about playing in Halifax wanted an opportunity to play with Cliff, a player they admire and respect, who they know will make them better each day."
The Halifax Hurricanes begin their 2019/20 season in Charlottetown on Saturday, December 28, 2019 and play their home opener Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 2 pm at the Scotiabank Centre.
