Halifax, N.S.-The Halifax Hurricanes are pleased to announce that North Preston's Chris Johnson has signed with the team for the 2019-20 NBL Canada season.
Johnson, the 6'5" guard/forward, played high school basketball in Cole Harbour at Auburn Drive before heading to the United States to play in the NCAA with St. Bonaventure University. Last season, Chris was named to the NBL Canada All-Canadian Second Team averaging 14 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and handing out 2 assists per game while playing for the Cape Breton Highlanders. Earlier this summer, the Hurricanes acquired his playing rights in a trade with the Sudbury 5.
"We are very pleased to be able to have Chris, a veteran player and an outstanding local talent, with us for the upcoming season. He had a very successful overseas career for a number of years and followed that up with two very productive seasons in our league," say Coach Mike Leslie. "Chris will provide key offensive scoring as well as leadership to his younger Hurricane teammates. He will represent the Hurricanes well in our community relations as a role model to youth who wish to pursue their dreams and goals on and off the basketball court."
The Halifax Hurricanes will be entering their fifth season as a member of the NBL Canada. Season Memberships for the upcoming 2019-20 regular season are on sale now.
